Reconstructive surgery, a branch of plastic surgery, is a surgical procedure performed to repair or reconstruct the abnormal body structure that is inborn or developed by accidents or diseases. The major aim of these surgeries is to restore the body's function and enhance its beauty.
Just like any other surgery, this surgery also comes with risks, which include infections, excessive bleeding, longer wound healing, bruising, and anesthesia complications. However, these risks are elevated if the individual has tissue damage, skin disease, HIV, smoking habits, compromised immune system, and poor dietary habits. Several types of reconstructive plastic surgeries are there, such as breast reconstruction, feet and hand surgeries, flap surgeries, scar revisions, and facial procedures.
