Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to develop an operational protocol for clinicians, focused on identifying the risks associated with regenerative aesthetic treatments using ultrasound and radiofrequency. It also seeks to outline a workflow that integrates collaboration with dermatologists through pre- and post-treatment skin screening. Materials and Methods: A protocol was designed in two phases: 1) a focused aesthetic history (AEO) to identify systemic and local contraindications, and 2) an aesthetic-dermatological screening (SED) conducted using a digital dermatoscope to detect suspicious skin lesions before and after treatment. The safety and efficacy of radiofrequency and ultrasound treatments were assessed in relation to systemic diseases, pre-existing skin conditions, and the use of implanted medical devices. Results: The protocol allowed for the precise identification of patients at risk of complications, such as those with pacemakers, active skin diseases, coagulation disorders, and conditions related to pregnancy. The dermatological screening revealed a significant reduction in false positives and unnecessary biopsies, improving diagnostic accuracy in detecting suspicious lesions.
Conclusions: The proposed protocol provides clinicians with a practical tool to ensure safe treatments with ultrasound and radiofrequency. Interdisciplinary collaboration between clinicians and dermatologists proved essential for the success of aesthetic treatments, enhancing the quality of care and reducing medical-legal and health risks.
